More compact biological water treatment in the Middle East
Willemse Technical Solutions contributed to the development of a water treatment process aimed at reducing energy consumption and the use of chemicals.
Problem, approach and result
The development combined process knowledge, technical design and practical support during assembly.
Problem
The challenge was to make water treatment more sustainable and reduce the use of harmful chemicals. The space required for treatment basins was another consideration.
Approach
The design increased the internal contact area available for bacteria to attach to. This enabled a more compact biological treatment process. Assembly methods included the use of 3D-printed aids.
Result
The greater internal contact area enabled substantially more compact basins. The project description also reports lower energy consumption, reduced demand for chemicals and residual materials better suited to reuse, for example as fertiliser.
